The AGM was held on November 11th and included the prize giving for the Leading Rider Awards. We had lots more printouts submitted this year for the various categories and the results ended a very close call in some sections so don't lose heart if you missed out this year, keep those results coming in for 2010!

Report from Emma Lacey on Junior Academy:
Dear All
I hope you and your horses are well. We will shortly be commencing the winter training sessions at Topthorn EC, the first date will be 3rd November commencing at 5pm with another session starting at 6pm. I hope to have groups of a maximum of four and will divide you appropriately with consideration to your age/experience and your pony's experience. please book in with jannette Turner and also let us know if you cannot make the early session. Ideally I will be running the younger riders/less experienced ponies at 5pm and the more established at 6pm. The cost of the sessions will be as last year, £20 per person.
I may also run the 'Pony Proficiency Award' in a classroom style session either after the ridden training or in a separate session. Please also let Jannette know if you would like to take part and I will then arrange a session.
Hope to see you all soon
Emma

Next on the agenda was the National Area Team Championship Qualifier at the Regional show at Towerlands Park on 18th July which included a junior team jumping competition for members of Junior Academies.
Suffolk fielded 2 junior teams:
Harriet Leader-White, Lydia Few, Jake Andrews and Rosie Munson
N Sharpe, Georgia Leader-White, Emily Robinson and Zac Thorne
Both teams did well, finishing in 3rd and 4th places respectively.
We also put 2 Senior teams forward for the qualifier with 2 places in for the finals at stake...
Suffolk SaintsSuffolk Sorcerers
Chloe Winchester - Zeta Tetti Zac Thorne
Helen Stewart - Lars Night Leigh Isaac - Meinlass Camille
Hannah Sonnex - Goodtimes Mission to Mars Annabelle Block - It's Just Because
Colin Keeling - Won't Forget Me Emily Phizacklea - Tops Lotto
We are pleased to say that for the 2nd year running, the Suffolk Saints won! All combinations jumped double clear which forced a jump off against Northampton who were the only other team to finish on a zero score.
The Suffolk Sorcerers all jumped well, gaining valuable experience in team competition and it was very nice to see all our riders supporting each other.
Colin went first in the jump off with 4 faults in a fast time so it the pressure was on but when the Northants rider had an unfortunate stop at the first fence, Suffolk had won! The finals are held at BSJA/Scope Festival this year on Sat 5th Sept so if any Suffolk supporters are there, please come along & cheer for your team!

**Don't forget Leading Rider awards for 2009 - details on home page**
Norfolk and Suffolk have joined forces to run a Junior Academy. A meeting was held late last year and a sub-committee has been formed to help in the running of the academy.
Open to all BSJA Junior or Junior Associate Members
Eligible until December after their 18th birthday
No bar to entry – all standards and experience welcome
No additional membership fees, part of BSJA package
The Academy aims to provide progressive coaching rather than one off training sessions, using experienced BSJA Accredited Coaches to significantly improve the riding skills and horse knowledge of the junior membership in order to make them more competitive in the sport of show jumping.
The idea is to:
develop a ‘culture of improvement’
offer progressive, structured coaching
develop greater understanding across all areas of horsemanship and recognise there is more to it than just riding!
develop a camaraderie between the members of the Junior Academy
increase awareness and positively impact junior membership
retain junior members who subsequently become seniors
develop competitive edge
spot the stars of the future
have fun
create value for the parents as well as the juniors
bring together keen, competitive juniors committed to our sport and create an environment where they benefited from training with their peers.
